"The Hamburg Sound - Beatles, Beat und Große Freiheit"

Hamburg, Hamburg-Museum, 3. Juni 2006 - 7. Januar 2007

Aside from the fact that the term "Hamburg Sound" seems to be a marketing invention of the curators, this is an affectionately compiled exhibition on the "Star-Club" and the music scene of Hamburg in the sixties and early seventies. Among it there are some memorabilia about and from acts of Joe's. A lot of other time-related material is added. Catalogue and CD are available at any book shop, as well as at the museum.

Hamburg-St.

Hamburg Sankt Pauli, 39 Grosse Freiheit, in the rooms of the former Stern cinema: that's where the Star-Club resided. Among some less important colleagues like Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles or the Beatles, the billboard shows three names related to Joe Meek: Screaming Lord Sutch (top left), Emile Ford (bottom left) and the Tornados (bottom right), who unfortunately lost their T.

Typical sixties music comedy. The frame story has only one intention: to present as much musical acts as possible. To be shown:

Heinz (Live It Up, Don't You Understand), Andy Cavell & The Saints (Don't Take You From Me), The Outlaws (Law And Disorder), Kim Roberts (Loving Me This Way), Sounds Incorporated (Keep Moving), Gene Vincent (Temptation Baby), Jenny Moss (Please Let It Happen To Me, Sometimes I Wish), Patsy Ann Noble (Don't You Understand) and others.

A Region 1 DVD can be found without problems in US shops, a Region 2 DVD is available after searching a while at some web shops, but the source seems to be a video cassette. The quality is accordingly mediocre, above this the end credits are missing.
